How third-party names are used here

The documentation on json-yaml.com names a lot of other people's software, because describing what a converter does is impossible without saying which formats and tools it works with. Every one of those names is used descriptively — to state a true fact about compatibility or about how a tool behaves — and never as part of this site's own name, branding, or logo.

json-yaml.com and its operator are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or otherwise connected to any of the organisations listed below. Nothing here should be read as suggesting that any of them produces, supports, certifies, or approves this site.

All trademarks, registered trademarks, product names and company names mentioned on this site are the property of their respective owners, and their use here does not imply any association with them.

Marks named on this site

Where a symbol appears below, it reflects what the owner itself asserts: ® for a registered mark and ™ for one claimed without registration. Registration status varies by country, so a mark registered in one jurisdiction may be unregistered in another.

Kubernetes® is a registered trademark of The Linux Foundation in the United States and other countries. The Linux Foundation's guidance on descriptive use is published at linuxfoundation.org/legal/trademark-usage. We follow it: no logos are reproduced, no compatibility or certification is claimed, and no Linux Foundation mark is used more prominently than our own name.

The format names

JSON, XML and CSV are open specifications with no owner asserting a trademark over the format name. JSON is standardised as ECMA-404, ISO/IEC 21778:2017 and RFC 8259; CSV is described by RFC 4180; XML is a W3C Recommendation.

YAML is different. The specification is published as "YAML Ain't Markup Language (YAML™)", so the name is claimed as an unregistered trademark by the language's development team. It is used on this site only to identify the data format, which is descriptive use, and this site is not connected to the YAML project.

TOML is released by its authors under the MIT licence and no trademark is asserted over the name.

Open-source software

One third-party library is shipped with this site. The rest are named in the documentation because they are the right tool for a job this site does not do.

js-yaml is Copyright © 2011–2015 Vitaly Puzrin, released under the MIT licence. The full licence text is served alongside the library at /assets/js/js-yaml.LICENSE.txt, as the licence requires. No other third-party code runs on this site.

Our own name and mark

The name json-yaml.com, the wordmark, the site design, and the written material are the property of the individual who operates json-yaml.com. The domain describes what the site does rather than functioning as a distinctive brand, which is deliberate but also means it is weak as a trademark: descriptive names of this kind are difficult to register in most jurisdictions.

You are welcome to link to this site, quote short passages with attribution, and use the code examples freely. Please do not copy the site wholesale, present it as your own service, or use our name in a way that suggests we produced or endorsed something we did not. The terms of use set this out in full.

Corrections

If you own a mark named on this site and something here is wrong — the owner is misattributed, the symbol is incorrect for your jurisdiction, or a usage does not meet your guidelines — please write to contact@json-yaml.com. We will correct it promptly. That is a faster route than a formal notice and we would rather have the correction.
